The sounds of our politically-driven town are often dissonant. Underneath the political noise, the audio culture of DC is rich and varied. Sound Scene X: “Dissonance”, from the Listening Lounge, will showcase the sounds of our creative city through
– interactive audio installations
– headphone listening
– live music and more

The Main Event
Local audio collective artists from the DC Listening Lounge, as well as national and international contributors, will showcase audio across 4 floors and outdoors. Live performances from Layne Garrett, The National Symphony Orchestra and Takoma Park’s Pan Lara will enhance the celebration.

This year, several workshops are being held for participants of all ages. Please note that space in these workshops is limited and reserving your spot is highly recommended:

  • Make an Audio Postcard
  • Instrument Building Workshop
  • Mini-Listening Lounge
  • Vibrotactile Design Workshop

DC Listening Lounge began in the fall of 2004 by like-minded audio enthusiasts as an informal place to listen, experiment and learn more about the art and craft of sound. The group continues to meet once a month in DC living rooms to share and listen to one another’s latest audio finds- and to continue an ongoing conversation about sound and creative storytelling.

Curious visitors, eager listeners, and sound enthusiasts of all stripes and types are welcome. To join our mailing list or learn more about our monthly meetings, email at
