Time for some experimental music! At this year’s Sonic Circuits Festival of Experimental Music, Swiss sound artist Cathy van Eck will look for the singing voices of music stands, the sonic qualities of a singer’s gestures, and how cheering for others can make you a leader.

Cathy van Eck composes relationships between everyday objects, human performers, and sound. She is interested in setting her gestures into unusual, surprising or poetic relationships with sounds, mainly by electronic means. The result is a kind of performative sound art since it combines elements from performance art, electronic music, and visual art.

Sonic Circuits is a Washington, DC area promoter for experimental music. Sonic Circuits seeks to expose audiences to cutting edge contemporary music that defies genres, and offer artists new platforms to present their music and opportunities to network and collaborate with artists from around the world. In addition to organizing an annual festival since 2001, Sonic Circuits programs performances year round.
