Interview with Photographer Alexander Feshenko

Community Building in the Washington, DC area!!

Born in Moscow, Alexander Feshenko moved to the US about 10 years ago, making Capitol of the Free World, Washington, District of Columbia, his new and welcoming home.

" I try to make an image, whether it's a street shot, a building or a funky architecture piece, an interesting landscape into a multi-faceted, multi-layered art work that can be proudly hang on any wall. To be honest, I'm not quite sure how it happens, but when I look through the lens, I shoot mostly for an instinctive feel rather then from an analytical standpoint."

SFP Editor: What inspired you to become a photographer?

Alexander Feshenko:
When I was 6-years-old my mother put me into Sunday art school which I attended for 10 years. A few years ago I just thought to myself - I have to utilize all those artistic abilities of mine a bit better ! That is how it all started.

SFP Editor: How did you come up with your latest collection?

Alexander Feshenko:
I visited quite a view different places in the recent year and thought it would be a good idea to bring all the very latest works together under one roof, calling it the "Recent World Confessions" collection.

SFP Editor: What tips do you have for aspiring photographers?

Alexander Feshenko:
Have your camera with you always - You never know when you going to fall in love!

SFP Editor: What do you find to be the most challenging about taking photos?

Alexander Feshenko:
You never know what you going to get. It may look very good over all, but not through the lens, and the direct opposite!

SFP Editor: Name one place you would love to visit and photograph? Why this location?

Alexander Feshenko:
South East Asia, definitely. Mix of colors and shapes is so deep & intense - a photographic heaven!

SFP Editor: What brought you to DC and where/what have you enjoyed photographing the most in DC?

Alexander Feshenko:
My dear sister recommended I come to join her in the District, as she was already establishing her life here, few years out of Russia. As I didn't know any better, I just came. And I have to say, it was a very good choice - it can not get much better then this.
